FILMS

Kevin Smith season.

Clerks (1993)

When I first saw this film, I hated it. However, I hated it because of my personal circumstances at the time. In the 90's and still to an extent today, the movie suffers from being over quoted by geeks. Every Internet site referring to films, has some geek who can quote the Star Wars dialog between Dante and Randal.

I've seen it again recently and I have to say, I enjoyed it. The strange thing is there is no story in this movie. This movie is everybody's life and yet nobody's. Take a day in the life of any shop worker, film it and you'll basically have Clerks.
Kevin Smith is one clever guy. His dialog is so quick and smart, natural and consistently funny. He says himself, that NOTHING that happens in this movie can actually happen to people, yet it can happen to anybody. So, it's a hard to review film.

It's for anyone in a dead-end job, anyone who thinks about weird shit while they work. It's about the characters that pass though life and impart useless stories. Shot on one camera, in grainy monotones with a believably paced, self-financed honesty. It's textured, it's real.. It's brilliant.. Oh and it has Jay and Silent Bob. Nooch!

8/10
